Welcome to Yin Yoga Class Library.
Yin yoga is a simple mindful practice that targets both the deep connective tissues between the muscles, (ligaments, tendons, cartilage), bones, and the fascia network throughout the body.
The focus is to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility as the poses lengthen and exercise the bone and joint areas.
Poses are held for time in stillness – Ujjayi breath throughout the practice promotes the flow of energy (Chi or Prana) throughout the body nourishing the organs as we lengthen.
Yin yoga also calms the nervous system and quietens the mind. Enjoy the Journey!
Be mindful not to experience any pain in any pose – play your edge by coming into the pose to the point where you feel a level of discomfort then pull back to 70%. Over the time that the pose is held, the body will want to naturally sink further into the pose. Don’t push it – if the body is tightening rather than loosening in the pose, then you have gone too far – pull back and just allow the body to melt with each round of breath.
Yin practice is suitable for all levels of practitioners. See the Prenatal and the Yoga on the Go! pages for additional Yin Yoga classes.
